As a vintage trailer owner, I have many, many books of each of these types, so I can say this book is in this final group of rare, standout books that really do a truly great service to camper owners and enthusiasts, regardless of how new or experienced they are. It's a fantastic reference source yet it's also beautifully designed and full of great photos that both instruct and inspire.Why? For starters, this book is thorough, dealing with every major camper type (trailers, truck campers, teardrops, etc.) and it provides complete details on each. There is also specific information on the restoration process, such as how to repair walls, repaint the exterior, fix the windows, redo the floors, put in a solar power system, provide heat and a/c, and much more. These instructions are clear and show evidence that the author has done these things or has researched them very thoroughly. Unlike the "lifestyle" books, which just show pictures of finished products that in many cases have been professionally redone at great expense, this book provides the information you can use to create the camper of your dreams. Yet, there are also so many great pictures to inspire you actually to do that.Second, this book is well written. The descriptions are clear, and the writing is skillful, to-the-point and not verbose. You aren't distracted by errors (I haven't found any), and the information is well organized.Third, the printing and production quality of the book are impressive. There is color on virtually every page, excellent diagrams, charts and plans, and of course the previously-mentioned abundant pictures, all of which are sharp, bright and attractive. I also like how you can see the color-coded edge of each section on the page edges even with the book closed, making it easy to flip to a certain section if desired. Finally, the large-format softcover design of this book is my favorite for a book of this type, as it seems more manual-like, with big pages that work well for pictures and diagrams, yet the cover and pages are on good quality stock, so there is also the high-quality feel, much like a hardcover.If you're into vintage trailers or other campers and are only buying one book, this is the one to get. Where other books seem to leave me a little cold - either providing pictures without details or information without inspiration, this one gets it right.(I purchased this book myself, and I am not in any way affiliated with the author, publisher, or anyone else involved with the selling or production of this book.)

His first novel, however, eluded me for some time; it was out of print for a while and then I forgot about it. Fortunately I finally got round to it.All I can say is WOW. First novels are tricky things; the author's future success relies heavily on the impact they have on the reading public, and if the author should stumble, (s)he may not get a second chance.Some first novels are legendary; Stephen King's CARRIE and Margaret Mitchell's GONE WITH THE WIND come immediately to mind. It matters little that CARRIE was just the beginning of a brilliant career while Mitchell was a flash in the pan; they both achieved a legendary status that will probably remain always.With THE RATS, Herbert really hit the ground running. Most writers, regardless of genre, usually spend a little time setting the scene and providing the reader with a sense of place, and also takes some time to introduce the characters. Not Herbert. And even horror fans may find Herbert a bit much: his books are not for the squeamish; he seldom pulls back from the crunch, and seems at times to revel in the blood and gore he spills.And he does all this in that cool, calm, rational prose so typical of English writers; somehow this makes the endless horrors in THE RATS all the more dreadful.If it is decadent to enjoy a novel like this, I plead guilty. The man was a genius.

A suburban ratpocalipse.The Rats is a direct and simple horror book, but with great descriptions and surprisingly deep characters. Specially for a story about mutant rats gone mad!This is a short book with a to-the-point narrative. Stephen King has described this story as Mike Tyson on his prime: “no finesse and raw power”. We are introduced to Harris, an art teacher from the poor London suburbs. His neighborhood is soon taken by tales of deadly attacks by rats the size of dogs and he becomes one of the main agents against the plague.The book has similarities with zombie stories, in particular because the rats’ bites are deadly, but there is no total Apocalypse. The strong points are the extremely graphic descriptions of the attacks, that may turn into a total massacre involving a lot of people. Like in a crowded train and another one in a movie theater. When the lights are turned on, the floor is completely taken by the rats.It is very interesting how the author builds multi-lawyered characters with complex stories just to have them brutally torn by a mass of killer rodents in a few paragraphs. We have a man in a midlife crisis that is revealed to be a true hero, a nymphomaniac street dweller that lost to the war the only man who satisfied her, a former salesman that had an affair with a fellow worker and now has surrendered to alcoholism.A great read.

This is my first Herbert book, but the first of many ! Absolutely the best. I was reading a series of reviews in the New Uork Times, the was organized by subject, & this was one of the top ten horror/thriller category. Even though the Times tends to be pretty uppity, I figured what the hell, we aren't talking Agatha Chrisrie here, how bed could it be ? It's not, & when you get five star reviews from Stephen King, you know you've got a winner. No point in going over the plot, it's man earring rats all the way. There's even a tribute from Preston & Childs book Reliquary - about half way through the Rats, I there is a train thing, & I had this déjà -vu feeling, big time. It's virtually the same scene, written decades later. Tribute , plagiarism, or a bit of both? I'm going with tribute . Preston & Childs hardly need to use someone else's work. Any, get it on Kindle & go for it. Unlike today's 600 + page behemoths, this is a one nighter

My introduction to Ron Baker was through a four-part webinar series, of the same title, sponsored by Intuit Inc. It was not your typical webinar in the sense that Ron went way beyond any normal expectation in staying and answering the participants questions after the normal end. He was very gracious and detailed in all of his explanations and I suspect that his giving mentality is carried over into all of his consulting and business encounters. This is exactly what you will receive when reading this book. Actually, I didn't just read this book... I thought my way through all 335 pages and probably marked up almost every page! Ron gives you the "why," the theory, behind all the "how to" which allows the reader to build their own foundation in restructuring their own business model. We are talking about going from the model where you are selling time to a model where you are giving the client the freedom to placing a value on the outcome of what they will receive from you. This is radical... and it will allow the opportunity to make greater profits than anything that is time based. In fact, your old billable hour becomes the "floor" and not the "ceiling" on any of your new engagements.If you are serious about making an impact in the businesses and lives of your clients then the antiquated "billable-hour" and the "time-sheets" have to go out of your thinking! If any of you hesitated or had to re-read this last sentence then get this book and convince yourself that this radically different approach to doing business is something that you should have done a long time ago. You are no longer a Professional Service Firm, selling services and time, you are now a Professional Knowledge Firm, creating "value" for your customers and giving them an upfront fixed price that they can count on and budget for.In every transaction you have to consider three things: costs, price, and value delivered. No customer will ever care about your costs! Then consider that your customer is determined to get the lowest price for your services, while you are striving to get the highest price possible, so there is no common ground here. The only area where there is common ground is in value delivered. Both you and your customer are striving, in the same direction, to achieve the best value out of that transaction! If you desire to become a master at squeezing every ounce of value out of your engagements then it would be a serious mistake to forfeit learning what Ron Baker has to share in this book.Your clients will be so filled with gratitude that they will not have any reason to look elsewhere because no one listens as well or solves their problems like you do, at a price that they are more than willing to pay!

Not that this book needs another five star review, but I have a reason for chiming in. I was reading Ron's books starting around 2005 or so, and while I loved the way they made me think about everything. After writing five books that I know of, Ron produced this work, which summarizes everything from previous books and offers a hands-on approach to his value pricing model.Now, Ron is an accountant. This means you have to be able to think about what he is saying in your own context. He cannot give you your context, only his own. This doesn't make what he says any less useful in any professional service. The idea of value creation as a measure of company plus customer profit, and how to apply this concept to define price, is applicable to anyone who uses their brain to make money. And there are many ways to think of a fabrication company as a professional service provider, so no one is entirely excluded.Another selling point for this book is that this is where the nuts-and-bolts of value pricing ended up after all revisions of The Professional's Guide to Value Pricing went out of print. So if you missed that one entirely, if you're new to Ron's work, or if you're a professional looking to radically rethink how you and your company create value, get this book.

On a trip to China I had the opportunity to read from start to finish Ron Baker's Implementing Value Pricing book. Early on, as I read each page, I got the sensation that "I hope this book doesn't end!" The "theories" outlined in this prose are radical and very intelligently conveyed, allowing the reader to grasp these concepts in a methodical manner. As a person with a CI (continuous improvement) ideology of how to approach business (and life), I was enamored with the blend of rational and sensible concepts as delivered by Mr. Baker. Pricing time indeed makes no sense. It is NOT what the customer demands. The Customer demands service and results. Providing a Customer a price up front is respectful and professional. We want them to call us to help them with their needs, not worry about that sinking feeling of calling my advisor and watching the clock.Beyond that, tracking time is wasteful (highly against CI principals). It is inexact and therefore meaningless. As Ron shared with me, we already know our cost. Can't we be smart enough to build a business model that ensures a healthy profit. If we can't, we are in the wrong business. I've just started a new Outsourced Accounting Business. Our goal is to make our value proposition (at premium prices) so that our Customers see us as a necessity in their business and highly dependent on the value we bring to the table. I can assure you I will read this book at least 2 more times. It's like a great movie, you'll catch other insights the more you watch (read) it!I cannot praise Ron enough for delivering to us in the "professions" a mantra of which to follow as we forge forward helping our Customers succeed!Thank you again, Ron.

What a thorough, logical, thought-provoking read. The book takes you through a useful, logical path of reasoning: defining the problem with hourly billing (even considering the positives and the history behind it), why consumers buy anything, and replaces your current knowledge of what you believe is possible with pricing a customer based on services and gives you tools, processes, ideas, and case studies to help you visualize and reason through / unlearn what you currently know about time-sheets. I've never left a review before, but this book calls for it - I would say as a CPA that this should be required reading, at least so you can affirm your beliefs of what you are offering or can offer your clients. It's a wake-up call the industry needs. I had never read a Ron Baker book before, but I'm sold on his ability to provide careful, sound reasoning behind his arguments. Well worth the time and investment.
