The Faeries' Oracle, by Brian Froud

Amazon.com Review

Author and illustrator Brian Froud offers believers a chance to consult with the magical wee folks. Using a deck of 66 "oracle cards," believers conduct readings as if interpreting Tarot cards. Each of the cards features Froud's signature faery pictures. Some of the cards have specific faeries, like the naked leaping "Spirit Lancer"--a feminine card that represents "self-expression, freedom, and exploration," according to the accompanying text written by Jessica Macbeth. Others are more abstract, like the "Guardian of the Gate," a blue- tinted card with splaying silver-white streaks that look like tendrils of faery hair. This fascinating deck will keep Froud fans delighted for hours. Once seekers are ready to actually start communicating with faeries, they will also be delighted with Macbeth's whimsical, yet highly informative, guidebook. She is quick to sympathize with the self-consciousness that comes with talking to faeries, yet she also has the ability to jolly people out of their embarrassment. Macbeth is at her wisest when discussing how to ask for guidance and interpret specific layouts of oracle cards. But if you find yourself succumbing to giggles in the midst of all this faery woo-woo, take heart. Writes Macbeth, "Giggles are the grace notes of faery music." --Gail Hudson

Amazing oracle, and an amazing journey. I can't say enough about how much I love this deck. If you are of Celtic descent and want to know of the lore and energy of the Anglo/Celtic lands, this is for you. If you feel drawn to the Faery realms, and the elementals and green magick, then this is for you. If you feel drawn to this oracle at all, get it, because this deck will transform you, and is no doubt calling out to you.A few things I think are important to mention: The beings in the Faery realm and elementals and the green world are absolutely real. The beings on the cards do exist. Many of the images on the cards depict the appearance and the energy of beings that do exist in another dimension of reality. The other thing I will say is: Just because you finish using the cards and put them away for the night, that doesn't mean the faerys are locked away. They may visit you, and interact with you in many ways, so be prepared. This is not something to fear. In fact, knowing the faery realm is like getting to know another culture or foreign country. The people there aren't bad, they're just unknown to you until you get familiar with them. Same with the faery realm. You will get to know the different characters in the faery realm, and just stand back and be prepared for an amazing journey of a lifetime. As for the readings, the cards are beautiful, and convey lots of wisdom. They will speak to you in surprising and wonderful ways, always enlightening. Work with this deck, and let it work with you, and the journey will be an enchanted one.

Probably one of the most stunning decks I have ever seen! The drawings on the cards are more of an older style depiction that most people dislike. Some of these cards depict beings of light that make certain shapes, and other cards depict non-human like creatures that look a bit strange and unusual to most humans. The human-like features of some of them are still very strange, their legs may appear differently, animal like in nature (human-like on the top but also having frogs legs for example). If you're into this kind of style and depiction then this deck is for you. I feel that this really shows what some of the faerie may look like. Faerie is also a general term that relates to more than just human-like people with wings, it relates to all manner of creatures that would be considered otherworldly. So you have gnomes and tree spirits in this deck as well as little people with wings or even creatures with wings or what some would consider goblins. Either way, they have a very interesting way of coming across to people. The people who didn't like this deck I think were expecting something humanly beautiful. But these beings are not humans, they are other creatures depicted on these cards. Expect unusual appearances here! For me, that's what makes this deck so unique, it is what I love about this deck, because it isn't based on a Victorian style of fairy, but instead of a more natural appearance in nature. I've used this deck a few times already and I truly feel this deck speaks to me with the faeries depicted. As a lover of older lore, I am in love with these cards!

This is my #1 favorite divination/oracle/deck though runes are a very close second. I love love love this book and the cards! They are always on point, often surprising me! What really makes this for me is the writing. Jessica Macbeth does an amazing job. The beginning is a very interesting and fun read, I couldn't put it down. And each card has a very long, explicit explanation - about each fairy themselves and then about the reading. I often travel with this deck and purchase it as a gift for friends. I have the "The Heart of Faerie Oracle" deck as well and I don't love that one. This one is my "go to", again because of the writing. Of course - there is no absolutely denying that Brian Froud is an amazing artist and this deck would not be what it is without his illustrations. I *heart* The Faeries' Oracle!!

One of my all time favorite movies is the Dark Crystal. I was 100% committed to purchasing this deck when I learned that the artist (from the movie) had created an Oracle deck of Faeries. I am speechless at the beauty of Brian Froud's artwork. The set is very affordable and the included hardcover guidebook is worth the price alone! The cards, though stunning, are thin so I recommend being gentle when handling them. I chose not to bridge shuffle for this reason. The cards also have a matte finish so they do not fan well. I tend to pick my cards using the "cutting the deck" method or I carefully lay out each of the cards to simulate "fanning". Both the cards and the guidebook come housed in a sturdy cardboard box perfect for storage between uses. I use these cards so much that they haven't found their way back into their box since the day they were delivered. The set only cost me $15 so I've been wanting to buy a second deck as a backup or for traveling. What an amazing find!

There’s something universal about Satrapi’s search for self-definition, but her experiences in Vienna and Tehran are rendered with such witty particularity, and such heartbreaking honesty, that by the end of this book you’ll feel you’ve gained an intimate friend."—Julie Orringer, author of How To Breathe Underwater "Marjane Satrapi's books are a revelation. They're funny, they're sad, they're hugely readable. Most importantly, they remind you that the media sometimes tell you the facts but rarely tell you the truth. In one afternoon Persepolis will teach you more about Iran, about being an outsider, about being human, than you could learn from a thousand hours of television documentaries and newspaper articles. And you will remember it for a very long time."—Mark Haddon, author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeFrom the Hardcover edition.

From the Inside Flap

In Persepolis, heralded by the Los Angeles Times as "one of the freshest and most original memoirs of our day," Marjane Satrapi dazzled us with her heartrending memoir-in-comic-strips about growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Here is the continuation of her fascinating story. In 1984, Marjane flees fundamentalism and the war with Iraq to begin a new life in Vienna. Once there, she faces the trials of adolescence far from her friends and family, and while she soon carves out a place for herself among a group of fellow outsiders, she continues to struggle for a sense of belonging. Finding that she misses her home more than she can stand, Marjane returns to Iran after graduation. Her difficult homecoming forces her to confront the changes both she and her country have undergone in her absence and her shame at what she perceives as her failure in Austria. Marjane allows her past to weigh heavily on her until she finds some like-minded friends, falls in love, and begins studying art at a university. However, the repression and state-sanctioned chauvinism eventually lead her to question whether she can have a future in Iran. As funny and poignant as its predecessor, Persepolis 2 is another clear-eyed and searing condemnation of the human cost of fundamentalism. In its depiction of the struggles of growing up--here compounded by Marjane's status as an outsider both abroad and at home--it is raw, honest, and incredibly illuminating.

Anyone who thinks that a graphic book must be nothing more than a cartoon would be well advised to read "Persepolis." It's an extraordinarily moving work, possibly all the more so for being in graphic format. It's also funny and scary and just wonderful. I'd had it on my shelf for several years and decided it was time to "tackle" it, and I'm glad I did.

This book or comic is already pretty popular, and already a highly recommend book so what can I offer that these others haven't mentioned? I don't know, I honestly don't think I can but maybe someone can take away something about what I say. Now there not a lot of books dealing with Iran or the Iranian revolution and if their is I haven't found them yet. Now this book is about a young girl going through Iran cultural revolution and how people change and how her whole family had to change or adjust to their surroundings. Eventually she goes to Europe or France (if I remember correctly) and having to deal with love, liberals or hippies, and racism and mean nuns. I don't think story is the first of its kind but that doesn't mean that it should be undermined. The story has great illustrations and how the author deals with this struggles. In a way you see her loose her innocents through a child's eyes till adulthood. There are plenty of stories of young woman having to deal with change, and their countries sexist views and using their religion to justify their actions. Even some American states do it, so calling us nothing or better than Iran is hypocritical. If your intrested in Iran, or the story of a young girl having the deal with change or racism, or the struggles of living in a very conservative/ religious country I would highly recommend this book. Thank you for reading my review. Now if your looking for another Iran comic book that deals with serious issues like Persepolis then look no further than Zahra's paradise.

This is part 1 of a 2 part story. Ms. Satrapi's masterpiece is one of my favorite works in all of comics. I read this when it came out and foisted it upon all of my comic reading friends. I gave a copy to a niece several years ago, and then recently bought another copy for another niece for her 11th birthday (I'll hold off on part 2 for her until she is 14). Because I had given it to both nieces, my 76 year old mother decided to read it. She is a retired English teacher, and she was floored at how good the story was and how powerful the medium of comics are in telling a story. Persepolis ended up jumpstarting my mother's interest in comics, and in the following weeks she read all three volumes of March, both volumes of Maus, the Story of My Tits, Chicken with Plums, and Two Brothers (this last one confused her, but she loved everything else). So, there you have it. This floored my 11 year niece and my 76 year old mother. It's brilliant and timeless.

This clever book is a kind of a memoir slash graphic novel slash comic book that’s essentially a coming-of-age story about a girl growing up in Iran.I really enjoyed this book and found it really interesting and thought-provoking. Although it sort of appears to be a light-hearted read, it gets into some serious stuff at times and really gives you some perspective.Overall, I highly recommend this book to both young adult readers and adults alike.

A long time ago my high school history teacher put the movie version on in class, much to the dismay on my classmates. A lot of people began complaining about it so my teacher turned it off. I remember being so fascinated by Marjane Satrapi's story and finally picked myself up a copy of her book. What a wonderful story. I think what I love most about the book (which is made up of comic strips) is how different the emotions can be and change. One story/comic strip will have you laughing, another furious, and another heartbroken. It was truly inspiring to see how Ms. Satrapi moved about her life and the trials and tribulations that came with it. Loved it and would highly recommend.

Finally, in the early 21st century do we receive a woman's view of life in Iran. Persepolis deserves to sit among Hirsi Ali's Infidel and Husseini's Murder in the Name of Honor. Perhaps because he parents were not overly devout Muslims, Marjane was permitted to read to her heart's content. She assimilated copious quantities of political dogma at a young age, which enabled her to see things from several perspectives. We are shown life through Marjane's eyes from her days in elementary school (even then she is a bit of a rebel, unwilling to wear the burka in the desert, though she is not alone here). Growing up in a society where social class and gender matter more than anything else, she feels genuine grief for her maid, who is doomed never to marry the neighbour she loves. Fortunate enough to evade the bullets through serendipity before the Shah's overthrow, she is forced to mature rapidly and learns that she must not blame children for the atrocities of their parents. Perhaps the most profound moral of her childhood tribulations is the price of freedom and the tragedy for those left behind, hoping, worrying and fearing for the fate of their loved ones who were imprisoned for being enemies of the state. Everyone living in the democracy must be grateful they are not suffering the fate of North Koreans.Always, regrettably, the dark puppet-masters are omnipresent. Willing to aid despots in their quest for power, the common people are often forgotten and seen as expendable. With no means to resist armed police (or escape from a barricaded cinema), their insurrections are often easy to quell. Recurrent themes are the deadly chains of hatred, vengeance and bitter grief. Forgiveness is a laudable goal, and though Gandhi succeeded in his endeavours, one is always left wondering whether the cost in human lives was worthwhile. Was there a better way? Could the soldiers have been convinced or coerced to turn against their own oppressive regime if necessary?Although told from Majane's perspective, the stories of her uncles, friends and extended families also receive their fair share of space. Each chapter of the first half reveals more of the history and culture of Iran in the 70s and 80s. No detail is omitted and the harsh realities of a country in the throes of anarchy are laid bare for readers to vicariously experience. Her secondary education in Vienna enabled her to learn more about the world beyond Iran's narrow and artificial borders. Like Anne Frank's diary, as Marjane matures, so too does her writing style and vocabulary. Despite being a comic book, the latter half is full of text and can be quite vexing to slog through. The most poignant and tragic moment comes when Marjane rejects her homeland and chooses freedom over a patriarchal dictatorship.

This book is almost square, a fine format for displaying the well chosen images. It says "Black & White" but it also says "Complete Guide", and that's so true. Here you find a very methodic approach to this subject. Starting with simple straight forward color to B&W conversion and showing clearly that the simple way is quick and so dirty, Michael soon leads us into the world of creatively making what we want and how to tweak the image to get that result. Michael shows us (using Photoshop as main tool) step by step how to tackle the issues, from the color image itself via the conversion (tools) to processing the converted result. Other conversions (like duotones, InfraRed, solarization) are very well explained, in completely worked out examples. Likeable is that he really shows the different possiblities, sometimes to show that some ways are not producing top quality work, sometimes to show the choices, creative decisions you have to make for yourself. Plug-ins and other specialistic tools (for making digital look like film, for noise-reduction etc.) are nicely introduced, showing where, if and when they are needed. The images are beautiful and to the point. The examples show that seeing in color is so different from seeing in B&W. Michael makes us aware of thinking beforehand in B&W, shown also in work made by the masters (Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and more). The Zone system is not left untouched in this book. If you think: B&W? Easy: desaturate, done. Then think again, from what you see here, you know this conversion can be done so much better. The displaying, mounting, presenting of the work are also covered. This really is a complete guide! When you pick this up you have a very attractive book in your hands. Written for easy reference, no lengthy chapters, but concise and direct 2, 3 pages on each subject. And believe me, you want to pick up this book, time and time again, to become a master yourself, at least in the processing and finishing department.

This volume fits with Michael Freeman's other books in these respects: Its the same size, Mr. Freeman's writing is accessible and clear, There is plenty of good information and how-to-do-it examples. I have read two other books by Mr. Freeman and like them very much. The bad is the production of the book. There are obvious and easy to catch misspellings. Sentences that make no sense. Sentences that aren't. On one page two of the example graphics are incorrectly labelled (the labels were switched and the examples and descriptions were opposites). All this carried on throughout (I had hoped the situation would improve as the book went on - it didn't). On the first page of each section there are several lines of boldface type. I thought it would be a very brief overview or a short pertinent quote from the text. No, although it is located halfway down the page, it is the beginning of the text. You must read it first.I'm glad Mr. Freeman's newer book(s) are from Focal Press, they seem to have a much better grasp on putting together a quality product.

I have purchased many of Michael Freeman's books. This one meets all of the excellent standards that I like and respect about his writings. I particularly found his comparisons with color imaging and silver based photography stimulating. The only criticism I have is the poor proof reading. There are many misspelled words, words left out, etc. As a result reading the book can be a bit tedious. This was not the case with the authors other books.

Great reading

Very good treatment of black and white digital photography

I had to read it twice before really grasping what was said and I still pick it up for another read in specific areas. Would recommend this book to my friends.

Great Book - Very Helpful. I have learned a lot about digital black and white which is not available in other black and white books.

I've been shooting B&W for almost 60 years, but I appreciated the author's revisiting of the medium's history, and the philosophy that kept many of us shooting B&W long after good color films were commonplace. As a general introduction to B&W photography, this is an excellent book. Most of the technical information is slated toward Photoshop CS4, I think, as that's the latest version mentioned in this 2011-publication book. A handful of good alternative software packages are mentioned, but not covered in great detail. There have been comments here about the author's understanding of Photoshop tools, but there are many ways to convert a color image to monochrome. Ultimately, it's the photographer's eye, coupled with a willingness to spend time learning what all the menu options do, that will produce good results. Good photography is hard work. Pressing the shutter release is easy; what you do before and after are what matter. This "Complete Guide" covers all the facets of digital B&W photography, and on opening the book one is immediately impressed by the design. Echoing others' complaints, where it falls down is in proof-reading! I will think twice before buying another Lark Press book for this reason alone. Yes, the images are helpful and, even with the typos, the text is informative. But the typos and either flipped illustrations or erroneous captions become intrusive in a hurry. Given the production costs and the costs of licensing Ansel Adams' and others' photos, a few hundred extra bucks for a proof reader doesn't seem out of line. Still, if you're interested in exploring black-and-white digital photography and you have a DSLR and Photoshop CS4 or later, you'll find a great deal of helpful information and inspiration in this book.

This book is exquisite—and often times painfully so. Wallace is a masterful storyteller who reveals the secrets of Sorrow’s past with mesmerizing acuity. In truth this is a really difficult review to write because I don’t feel like The Memory Trees was a book at all. Rather, it was an experience—one I lived and breathed—and it shook me so viscerally that it’s hard to step away to reflect on it here. But I want EVERYONE to read it so I’ll say a few things that rocked my world:There are women in this book.Lots of beautiful, enduring women who carve their own fate. There are women who love women and women who love men.Women who love daughters and daughters who try to protect that love at any cost. And these women live and love upon a fertile patch of Vermont land where the very past vibrates in the soil as the orchard moans, mourns and loves.Sorrow Lovegood’s quest to find the truth of her own story—and marry it to the stories of generations of Lovegood women who came before—is beautiful. It is heartbreaking and powerful. Wallace deftly explores really heavy themes in this book: divorce, mental health, death and loss, dysfunctional families, complicated familial relationships, and finding one’s voice. But Wallace also manages to weave such magnificent hope within the story and Sorrow’s quest. Because the orchard is a thrilling, vibrant heartbeat of love and life and loss; the trees pay attention to the rhythms of love in all the ways that humans should pay attention to this magnificent force.Wallace’s sophomore novel is brilliant. Wallace is capable and confident in her rich prose and her resilient, brilliant female characters reminded me of the richly drawn women brought to us by authors such as Alice Walker, Margaret Atwood, Isabel Allende. This book has my whole heart. I recommend this book for teens, but also for adults. It is a stunning powerhouse of a book. It is timeless. It is beautiful. It is a gift.

Beautifully written, atmospheric, mysterious, magical. It's the story of 16-year-old Sorrow, who goes home to Vermont to try to find the memories she's lost since she moved to Florida with her dad and his ordinary family after her older sister died eight years ago. Woven in are chapters from the women who came before her, starting with Rejoice who planted the apple orchard in the 1700s and had to defend her land against greedy men who claimed she was a witch. A feud between two families starts then, and continues through all the generations right up to the present. Sorrow at 16 is perplexed and frustrated by the families' insistence on keeping up the ancient feud, but her habits and ways of behaving in Vermont were set when she was 8. The orchard and the land, her mother Verity's depression, her grandmother Perseverance's muteness, the strange winter - "witch weather" - that strikes whenever someone dies, secrets, isolation, the effect of Verity's mental illness on her daughters, fire...it's all woven together in a gorgeous tapestry.

Moving, haunting, and so gorgeously written! I was a huge fan of Kali's earlier book, SHALLOW GRAVES, and I have to say that I love this book even more than her first. I feel like I've recommended this book to so many different types of readers because it's so multilayered--on one level, it has magical realism, on another, it's about family, and grief and loss and love. I could go on and on, but I think this is the type of story that needs to be experienced by each individual who reads it. Brilliant! Five Stars!

This is such a beautiful book. Wallace’s prose is delightful! This is a book you will want to read again and again!

Because I had loved the author's Shallow Graves which debuted last year, I was pretty optimistic about this one. The Memory Trees is written like a mystery with a few supernatural elements. Basically, the story is about two very old families that were present at the first white settlements in the town, and their complicated history throughout that has manifested in a tragedy with Sorrow's generation. The build-up in the book is very slow, and it took me days to just get into it - most of it was about day to day in the town when Sorrow comes back, and her fragile relationship with her maternal family which she is working to restore while trying to remember the events of the night of her sister's death. There are also some flashbacks with some other ancestors to emphasize the life of this family in their town, especially because they are matrilineal and have been since their first ancestor, Rejoice came to live in it.The problem with The Memory Trees is that it gets too lost in the atmosphere and only occasionally returns to the plot to progress it. It is not even about character development - it just feels like it is trying to establish the setting of the book. And for a person like me, who prefers the setting work towards the plot instead of the reverse, I was, in a word, bored. The actual exciting elements did not arrive until, like, the last third of the book, so until then you are just hanging around wondering what happened that night. The story is pretty good, and I loved the details that went into constructing the characters of each era, but it is mostly drifting in the book. Each of the women in the flashbacks faced challenges, primarily because they were women and tied to their family. That is their shared legacy - that they would always be considered witches by the townspeople, and they would always feel a part of their lands. The supernatural element is very subtle and I think it hardly matters to the plot. Eventually, superfluous writing kept me from fully enjoying the story.Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from Katherine Tegen Books, via Edelweiss.

From Booklist

In 1939, at the start of World War II, Christophe was six years old, too young to understand the increasing legislation against the Jews of France. Christophe and her mother lived in Paris with the author's grandmother; her father, a soldier, was taken prisoner by the German invaders. In 1942 Christophe and her mother were arrested as they attempted to flee Paris for the unoccupied zone in southern France. They were subsequently interned in French camps. In May 1944 they were deported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany; in April 1945 the author and her mother were among hundreds of prisoners taken by train from the camp. After the SS abandoned the train, they were freed, and in June they were reunited with Christophe's father. Christophe's memoir can best be described as a series of snapshots--brief paragraphs, some no longer than a sentence, and written in the present tense. These simple "snapshots" relate cruelty in vivid detail. George Cohen

I had been searching for thos book online for well over a year, however, every option I saw had this book listed for close to $10,000!! Beautiful and profound and touching of a story as this is and as impressed I am with the story of Francine Christophe as seen in her video on human, I absolutely cannot afford that price. Who could! I asked a friend who is a teacher to help me try to find this book in the library as it was not in my public library, and she found it in a local College Library. But before I got to that Library, I found the book being sold at this site for approximately $25 at the time. So I immediately bought it. I am thankful to this seller for selling it at a reasonable price and not selling it for thousands and thousands of dollars, so that more of us can have access to it. As for the story of Francine Christophe, I'm thankful to her for sharing the story of her childhood. It is a profound story. If you have not yet done so make sure you search Francine Christophe and human to see the little video where she tells of the story about the chocolate, is what compelled me to get this book. The wisdom of Francine Christophe is profound, you truly do feel like you are in a concentration camp with her and observing this experience. You will probably cry when you read this book, so make sure you have some tissues or at least a good t-shirt to wipe your eyes. This will be a good book for anyone wanting to understand what being a concentration camp would be like as well as experience of refugees and the impact that we should try to be in the lives of our fellow human beings.

Francine Christophe's account of her experiences at the French Concentration Camps at Poitiers, Drancy and Beaune-La-Rolande, it is a very interesting book. She tells the story in a very personal way. She leaves nothing out and tells an honest story about her experience in the camps. Her honest writing helped me understand the hardship that a whole group of children survived during War World 2. I would want people to read the book and see what those people went through at those camps.

It is horrible, very real and at the same time beautiful.

Before Hollywood: From Shadow Play to the Silver Screen, by Paul Clee

From School Library Journal

Grade 6 Up -In this fascinating account of the inventions and practices through time that led to modern film, Clee offers vivid descriptions of the key players from Giovanni Battista della Porta to Thomas Edison and their influences on the history of imaging from the 16th century to the silver screen. The story is complemented with trivia; biographical facts; and grayscale images of diagrams, film posters, photographs, and sketches, though the illustrations seem surprisingly few for a piece describing the history of playing with light, lenses, and projection. By demonstrating how early project kaleidoscopes and lighting and lenses combined to create original microscopes, Clee makes certain that readers understand that modern photography and filmmaking are rooted in both science and art.-Jodi Kearns, University of Akron, OH Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. For a lot of people, pre-film visual entertainments hold a nominal appeal. They're fun to look at and play with for a few minutes, but they can't command the attention like, say, a game where you crush candy on your cellphone by spamming the # symbol, or whatever it is the kids are doing these days. For a smaller, perhaps luckier group, the old technologies- the camera obscura, puppet theaters, magical lantern slides- continue to exert a dreamy fascination. If you're one of these people, this book is for you."Before Hollywood" takes the reader on a sumptuously-illustrated tour, from the days when science and magic were comfortable handmaidens and children could be amused by projected still images and shadow forms, up to about the time at the beginning of the modern era, where several individuals claimed a partial stake in the invention of the motion picture. The book does a good job of showing how history sometimes does a mean retconning on certain dreamers and scientists who don't get the credit they deserve (one Emile Reynaud is a truly tragic figure) while others are lavished with perhaps a bit more praise than they deserve (it would be unseemly to name names). The book concludes around the time that the bare bones of a film grammar emerged, with the likes of the Lumière Brothers firing their rocket into the eye of the Moon, and a gunslinger firing from the screen's canvas into the ranks of a distraught crowd, courtesy of Edison Studios. It's not taxing, revelatory history for the most part, but Clee's book provides ample and beautiful photos and illustrations (a definite must for the subject at hand) and regardless of how much you know about the subject, you're bound to come away entertained, if not a bit enriched by the journey. Recommended.

An invaluable book if you're a film buff. Here is essentially the birth and origin of hollywood as we know it today.

Very good introduction to early film and pre film history. The text hits all the important historical events and puts them in a very concise and easy to absorb order. The illustrations are excellent and they enhance this study.Perfect book to teach a class of younger students who really need to know more about how films at the superplex came about.
