This is a delightful story about Elizabeth Ramsbury, an independent, intelligent, and talented young woman who desires for herself a career as a musician instead of the usual path of marriage. Her younger sister, Cecilia, is more typical and wanted to become engaged to her love, Percy. Their father requires them to have a Season in London to see what that opportunity will bring them.Lord Anthony Cavendish, Baron of Bedford, wanted to marry his true love Diana Lambert, daughter of the Viscount of Somersby, but she laughs at him and embarrasses him in a painful rejection of his proposal. Anthony is devastated, so Felton Nicholson, his best friend, convinces him to go to London to take his mind off of his bad experience. He of course meets Elizabeth at the ball and they agree to a plan that could be beneficial to each. He will pretend to court her to make Diana jealous. In return for her cooperation, he will help Elizabeth with her music goals. It sounds like a well thought out plan – until things don’t happen quite as expected.I really loved this story line and the characters were wonderful. Do they find their happy ending? Do each reach the goal that makes them truly happy? Grab your copy and enjoy!
This is the kind of writing that made me fall in love with Bridget Barton’s books in the first place. A fantastic story, well paced, and interesting characters. This book is a clean and sweet Regency to remember!Follow along with Elizabeth and and Anthony. Set upon paths that are the opposite of what either of them wanted, they come together in what they think will be a clever plan. Only, it turns out, the plan works a little too welling a case of “be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.†And then some.I absolutely loved the two main characters. I especially love a strong female lead. Elizabeth is no simpering fool, and she knows her own mind. Anthony too, is strong willed. It’s lovely to watch their eyes get opened, even in moments of sadness. Ms. Barton always has a character that you want to shake, and in this one, it is Elizabeth’s sister.This one gets five stars and a high recommendation from me. I read this in exchange for an honest review. You should read it if you enjoy a good Regency.
OMG! Wow! Talk about going against the grain. Armed with her skill, gifts and imagination Bridget comes in like a whirlwind. Blowing through changing the dynamics with a devil may care storyline and adventurous plot bringing this baby roaring to life spectacularly. Riveting as it captivating from start to finish keeping your full focus on the pages and frozen to your seat. She nails the emotions that rage throughout 100% as she spins this jewel together. Twists and turns abound along with a few bumps and scrapes that keep you spellbound as drama and tension soars. The characters are complex, believable and so realistic it's easy to fall right in step with them as they traverse all the trials and tribulations. The scenes are point with such realism it's easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Remarkable job Bridget, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advanced Reader Copy of this story.
clean romance; suitable for preteensLord Anthony Cavendish, Baron of Bedford, thinks he wants Lady Diana Lambert, a viscount's daughter, back after a public rejection. Although Miss Elizabeth Ramsbury wants to pursue music, her father requires her to find a husband before he will approve her younger sister Cecelia's marriage proposal from her suitor. Elizabeth grudgingly agrees. Lord Felton Nicholson has bullied his friend Anthony into also looking for a wife to get Anthony off his obsession with Lady Diana. Anthony and Elizabeth happen to meet at a ball and concoct a fake courtship. But feelings do follow actions leading to an actual courtship not apparent to Anthony and Elizabeth who discover a mutual liking for music even under catty opposition against Elizabeth. Lady Diana shows up to challenge the courtship which appears to fall apart. Miss Cecelia confronts Anthony to let him know that Elizabeth actually returns his affections. Felton also does his part to help Anthony who breaks his engagement with Lady Diana and aggressively but politely calls on the moping Elizabeth to press his proposal. She is thrilled to accept his proposal. The epilogue reveals a number of musically talented children with Elizabeth's mother Edith playing a musical instrument with her granddaughter Emily. Cecilia gets to marry her suitor. There are various other loose ends wrapped up. The story is nicely complex and keeps the reader's interest!
Elizabeth is a rebel for the time period, in that she wishes to have a career as a musician and composer rather than be married. She is gifted in her abilities and is intelligent and honest. When her younger sister, Cecilia, wishes to be engaged, their father invokes the condition that both girls must go to London for the "season". Meanwhile Anthony, Baron of Bedford, has just been humiliated when his betrothal to Diana is rejected. Anthony is considered to be quite the catch, but is drowning his upset in alcohol. His best friend, Felton, arrives and insists they go to London as a diversion. Elizabeth and Anthony meet, commiserate and Anthony hatches a plan to get Diana back by pretending to court Elizabeth, and aiding her to achieve her own goals in the process. What could go wrong? Everything! Read this enchanting tale of two people with differing goals that fate brings together!
