In the past my church typically paid over $500 a year for Sunday School material for our 6-12 youth. I bought this book and have been using it for Sunday school material for the past 14 weeks and love it.I rarely use the activities because my class (middle school boys) doesn't really get into that kind of stuff but it is great to just go through the Bible chapter by chapter. I assign my class to read the next chapter during the week so that we can come to Sunday school and talk about the chapter we just read.I typically just use the objective, background, scripture, study questions, talking points and sometimes the real life connection. It provides us with plenty to talk about.I would recommend this to anyone who only needs a few ideas in order to get things going.
Preparing many weekly group lessons and keeping them interesting for our teens was a hard task, always feeling I was needing to do more or come up with some creative idea on my own. Then I accidentally ordered Vol 2, and sat on it for many months before I used a lesson with some modifications of my own and the teens loved it. Now I use these interactive lessons for our Wednesday classes, or when I need a short devo idea. These books have been a lifesaver freeing up so much time when my creativity has ran low.Benefits:1. All lessons are in the same layout so easy to go through.2. Easy to customize.3. Great interactive lessons, the teens love them even when they say "that was stupid" they laughed and now remember the lesson.4. Easier for me to keep their attention.What not to do:1. Grab a lesson an hour before class. (You still need to spend time making it your own for your teens).2. Lecture afterwards, make it a discussion.

The book offers good talking points.I wish the book raised questions that teens can relate to their own reality at school and in the relationship with parents.
Great book, my pastor had one and now I do too.
The lessons are thorough with plenty of extras to make the lessons last longer if you need them to, but basics of each lesson can take around 15 minutes if your on a time crunch
Let me say, I love this book. I would really like to see a similar work on the Psalms and Proverbs, but this is a great addition to any library. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because they used the NIV text, which is known to leave out entire verses of the bible.I will be ordering the second volume shortly, as it completes the New Testament work.Even if you don't work with the youth, this could be used for family bible study. Just don't use the bible text found in the book, as it is the NIV text, which had 64,000+ words removed from it. Sorry, but the Word of God is precious, and changing/removing is heretical.
I stumbled across this resource at Lifeway one day. It wasn't very much so I decided to go ahead and buy it. I'm a new youth minister fresh out of college and I had the idea that I wanted to write my own curriculum. How foolish I am. With all the business of ministry it's hard to get time to sit down and create really good engaging lessons for teenagers. I have been using these lessons on Wednesday night and my teens seem to be really engaging in them.Here is the basic set up of a lesson (note: all the lessons follow this format)TopicObjectiveBackground/Overview (this gives you a good understanding of what is going on in the passage)Game/Icebreaker (sometimes this involves being outside but it's a good way to give the teens something to relate the scripture too)Icebreaker QuestionsScripture (it actually gives you the scripture)Study QuestionsTalking Points (this gives you some more information about what's going on in the scripture, it's meant to facilitate discussion)Real-Life Connection (this helps the teens connect the Bible to everyday life)MediaProbably the best part about this resource is it comes with a cd in the back cover. This has all the lessons in pdf format. This makes it extremely easy to print off or email a lesson to teachers instead of having to give them the book or type it up yourself.This resource has a lesson for each chapter in the New Testament (if you get both volumes). While that may seem like overdoing it, it has been nice to go deeper into books with teenagers so they get a firm grasp about what's going on in that book.All in all this is an amazing resource that I would recommend to anyone working with a youth group. It's not that expensive and you get a lot of things for what you are paying.
